The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade [then Private First Class] Henry W. Marshall (ASN: 37674159), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 27 February 1945, in Germany. Technician Fifth Grade Marshall voluntarily went to evacuate wounded men lying in an open field under enemy fire. After giving first aid to twelve men, he assisted others who could walk to a rear position. Technician Fifth Grade Marshall made seven trips through the intense enemy fire and later aided in evacuating five litter cases. His great heroism in going out to the aid of the wounded men was responsible for saving the lives of several of his comrades. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fifth Grade Marshall, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
