The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Private First Class] Alexander Hogg, Jr. (ASN: 36854758), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 16 November 1944, in Germany. Despite intense enemy artillery concentrations falling nearby which killed the man working beside him, Sergeant Hogg continued digging out a wounded comrade who had been buried in his foxhole by enemy fire. Working steadily, he succeeded in freeing the man and then sent him to an aid station. Sergeant Hogg’s great heroism saved the life of his comrade. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Hogg, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
