The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Darrell A. Gaudet (ASN: 31421501), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 3 February 1945, in Germany. After his company had crossed the Roer River, they started through a dense woods when many casualties wee suffered from booby traps and mines, and Sergeant Gaudet was wounded. Despite his painful wound, he continued to lead his squad. Reaching the outskirts of a town, an adjoining platoon was pinned down by heavy enemy fire. Sergeant Gaudet courageously directed his squad to reinforce the platoon. Their combined fire power quickly reduced the enemy strongpoint and, advancing with the other platoon, Sergeant Gaudet’s squad contributed greatly to the final capture of the objective. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Gaudet, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
