The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) George W. Terry (ASN: 0-467477), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 23 February 1945, in Germany. During the advance by his company through a dense woods during darkness, First Lieutenant Terry, an Executive Officer, assumed command of elements of the company when one of the other officers was wounded by a booby trap. Taking a position at the head of his group, he felt for trip wires and held them until the first man of the group reached him. The wire was then passed from hand-to-hand. First Lieutenant Terry was constantly in danger from mines and booby traps but he courageously led his men forward through the entire woods with a minimum of casualties. The bravery, aggressive determination, and exemplary leadership exhibited by First Lieutenant Terry reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
