Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 97 (May 7, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Medical Corps) Frank J. Kochir (ASN: 0-467482), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 24 February 1945, in Germany. A bazooka shell accidentally exploded, killing several and wounding many men. Although enemy fire prevented others from evacuating the casualties, Captain Kochir and a companion voluntarily set out to give aid to them. They brought the wounded men to a basement where they continued giving aid and comfort despite mortar and direct fire falling on the building. The great heroism displayed by Captain Kochir and his companion saved the lies of several of the wounded men. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Kochir, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
