Sutton (ASN: 14100611), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 20th Infantry Regiment, 6th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on Lone Tree Hill, near Maffin Bay, New Guinea, on 23 June 1944. While a member of a forward observer’s party, Technician Fifth Grade Sutton refused to withdraw to a place of safety, but exchanged fire with the enemy from an exposed machine gun pit until he was killed. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fifth Grade Sutton, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
