The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Harold O. Turner, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Aidman, on 29 June 1944. When is unit was advancing in France, it was subjected to heavy machine gun, rifle, and artillery fire. Private Turner was the only man able to get help to those men wounded. He braved extremely heavy fire in an open field while he crawled to the casualties and administered first aid to them. While attending one casualty he suffered serious wounds. His exemplary courage and devotion to duty were an inspiration to the entire company, and reflect the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
