The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Major Quay Carlton Snyder, Jr., United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life near the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado, on 18 November 1988. On that date, Major Snyder’s selfless actions while braving adverse weather and treacherous terrain saved the life of an Air Force pilot whose aircraft crashed into a mountain. Major Snyder’s courage to quickly climb a mountain that could have easily claimed his own life is the sole reason the injured pilot survived. By his courageous action and humanitarian regard for his fellowman, Major Snyder has reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
