    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Captain Warren Lee Smith, United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life while serving with the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations, in action at Isfahan, Iran, on 8 December 1978. On that date, Special Agent Smith took aggressive action to disperse the frontal attack of a large mob bent upon destruction of the building which housed his Detachment and further prevented personal attack and injury to his six employees who were in the process of making their escape. By utilizing his ability as a linguist he was able to obtain sanctuary for the employees in a nearby home. Special Agent Smith’s leadership ability, initiative, and coolness under fire reflected the highest of military standards. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Special Agent Smith reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
