Wilfred Reny graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado, Class of 1971. As a Cadet, he was the first Cadet at the Air Force Academy to receive the Airman’s Medal and the first Cadet to be honored by a Cadet Wing Parade in his honor upon receipt of this medal. He retired in 1997 as a U.S. Air Force Colonel.

    U.S. Air Force Academy Register of Graduates

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Cadet Wilfred Edward Reny, United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life near Castle Rock, Colorado, on 18 January 1970. On that date, Cadet Reny exposed himself to danger on an interstate highway while rendering first aid to the critically injured victim of a tragic automobile accident. Concerned with the internal injuries the victim has sustained, Cadet Reny disregarded the advice of onlookers who advised moving off the highway to safety. Through Cadet Reny’s efforts the victim was saved. By his courageous action and humanitarian regard for his fellow man, Cadet Wilfred E. Reny has reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
