(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 2, 1926, takes pride in presenting the Soldier’s Medal (Posthumously) to Sergeant Monroe A. Atchley (ASN: 35579833), United States Army Air Forces, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with the 2033d Engineer Fire Fighting Platoon, on 4 June 1944. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Sergeant Atchley, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
