The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Robert Martin Brown, II, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an AC-130 Gunship Electronic Warfare Officer over Southeast Asia on 18 April 1972. On that date, while on a night aerial fire support mission over a friendly ground position, his actions enabled the friendly ground position to successfully halt and repel the superior-sized hostile force’s advancement upon their position. He displayed extraordinary airmanship in continually pressing the attack by applying an uninterrupted rain of accurate ordnance against the hostile force while coping with the constant threat imposed by accurate antiaircraft fire. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Brown reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Robert Martin Brown, II, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while participating in aerial flight as an AC-130 Gunship Electronic Warfare Officer over Southeast Asia on 1 May 1972. On that date, while on a night armed reconnaissance mission, his actions led to the damage or destruction of five hostile supply vehicles and the ignition of numerous secondary fires and explosions. Putting aside his concern for personal safety in the face of 55 rounds of hostile antiaircraft fire, he succeeded in destroying large amount of supplies and munitions destined for use against friendly forces. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Brown reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.

United States Military Academy Register of GraduatesThe President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Robert Martin Brown, II, United States Air Force, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force as an AC-130 Gunship Electronic Warfare Officer of the 16th Special Operations Squadron, 8th Tactical Fighter Wing, PACIFIC Air Force, Ubon Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, in action over the Republic of Vietnam, on 23 April 1972. On that date, while on a night aerial fire support mission over a friendly ground position, his actions enabled the successful aerial helicopter rescue of friendly ground personnel who were undergoing heavy attack by a superior-sized hostile force. He displayed extraordinary gallantry and airmanship in continually pressing the attack to distract and prevent the advancing hostile force’s heavy armour and track mounted antiaircraft artillery vehicles from firing upon friendly recovery efforts which were in progress. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Brown has reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
