First Lieutenant Hale distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as a Platoon Leader and subsequently as Commanding Officer of Company C, 2d Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, in action against the enemy from 1968 to 1970.
