First Lieutenant Fry distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as a Platoon Leader in an Infantry Company of the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, in action against the enemy in 1967. First Lieutenant Fry was seriously wounded by mortar fire saving one of his wounded soldiers. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Fry, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
