(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Ted Kazuo Yamashita, United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Captain Yamashita distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as Commanding Officer of Company A, 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at the Cu Chi Base Camp, Republic of Vietnam, in March 1967. When a numerically superior enemy force attacked and overran the lone company left behind to guard the basecamp during Operation JUNCTION CITY, Captain Yamashita, while wounded, continued to rally his troops in a “human wave” attack against the Viet Cong. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Yamashita, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
