(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Ernest LeRoy Webb, United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Captain Webb distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as an Advisor with Military Assistance Command, Vietnam, in action against the enemy in 1967. Captain Webb was on a search and destroy mission with his unit when suddenly the men came under heavy fire from a strong enemy force in well-concealed bunkers. Realizing that only an immediate assault would save his unit from heavy casualties, Captain Webb organized his men and led the attack across an open rice paddy. Inspired by his example, the Vietnamese troops followed him into the enemy positions and totally destroyed the Viet Cong force. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Webb, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
