The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) George Dennis Lenhart (ASN: 0-93803), United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Captain Lenhart distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 24 February 1968, while serving as S-3 Officer with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), during a combat mission near Hue, Republic of Vietnam. When his unit became heavily engaged with a large enemy force, Captain Lenhart repeatedly exposed himself to the hostile fire as he skillfully called in and coordinated supporting artillery fire on the enemy emplacements. Disregarding his own safety, he then directed a successful assault against the enemy force. His gallant action is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
