(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Thomas Hayden Davies, United States Air Force, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Captain Davies distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as a Pilot in the 504th Tactical Air Support Squadron, PACIFIC Air Force, in action against the enemy in 1967 and 1968. With complete disregard for his own safety, Captain Davies evacuated his aircraft from a small airfield during a mortar attack that set off an ammunition dump near him. After refueling at a distant airfield under hazardous flying conditions, he returned to give air coverage, subjected himself to intense hostile fire and flying shrapnel while directing an aerial support mission. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Davies, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
