(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Archie W. Morris, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 2d Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, in action against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam, on 21 August 1967. Sergeant Morris braved intense North Vietnamese automatic weapons fire to aid his wounded comrades. With total disregard for his own safety, he moved from man to man, administering first aid and saving many lives. After treating all the wounded in the lead element, he ran through intense machine gun fire to aid other wounded near his original position, where he was mortally wounded. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Morris, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
