Navy Federal Credit Union

Born in the Philippine Islands, Jesuit Priest Isaias Edralin was ordained a Catholic priest in 1918, and entered the Society of Jesus in 1933. After various ministries as a priest and teacher in the Philippine Islands, he served as a chaplain to the Philippine Army early in World War II, earning a Silver Star during the defense of the Islands. He came to the United States in 1948, gaining notoriety as a member of the Jesuit Mission Band, but returned to the Philippine Islands where he was appointed Minister to the Sacred Heart Novitiate. In 1959 he was assigned to Culion, in Palawan Province, to the Jesuit mission there. Among his activities as chaplain of the leper colony there, he also served as director of the Apostleship of Prayer and the Sodality of Our Lady, caring for the spiritual welfare of the people of Balain and Jardin. He was also director of the mission school.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Chaplain’s Corps) Isaias X. Edralin (ASN: 0-24460), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with as a Chaplain with the 102d Division (Philippine Army), in aerial operations in the provinces of Oriental Misamis and Bukidnon, Mindanao, Philippine Islands, from 2 May 1942 to 10 May 1942. During this period, disregarding personal danger, Chaplain Edralin visited units in the forward areas while under fire, and by cheerful demeanor, friendly counsel and courageous manner did much to maintain morale within the different units of the division. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Chaplain Edralin, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
