The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Harold Parsans Saurman (ASN: 2991), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Sanitary Detachment, 102d Machine-Gun Battalion (Attached), 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Trugny, France, July 22 – 23, 1918. Private Saurman displayed remarkable courage in going out under heavy machine-gun and artillery fire, giving aid to wounded soldiers and carrying them back to the dressing stations.
