The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Corporal Jacob George Orth, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 17 September 1862, while serving with Company D, 28th Pennsylvania Infantry, in action at Antietam, Maryland, for capture of flag of 7th South Carolina Infantry (Confederate States of America), in hand-to-hand encounter, although he was wounded in the shoulder.
