The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Robert P. Rowan (ASN: 1286988), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Samogneux, France, 9 October 1918. After being painfully wounded Corporal Rowan continued to lead his squad against a machine-gun and silenced it, thereby saving his company many casualties.
