The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Staff Sergeant Jordan P. Avery, United States Army, for exceptionally valorous actions while serving as a Weapons Sergeant, Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha 9115 (ODA-9115), Advanced Operations Base-South, from 4 January 2016 to 6 January 2016, during Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, in support of Resolute Support Mission. Staff Sergeant Avery distinguished himself by completely exposing himself to enemy fire multiple times to aid in the evacuation of a critically wounded teammate. Staff Sergeant Avery’s actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect distinct credit upon himself, the Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan, the NATO Special Operations Component Command-Afghanistan/Special Operations Joint Task Force-Afghanistan, and the United States Army.
