The Secretary of the Army of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Army Commendation Medal with Combat “V” to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Albert K. Luscher (ASN: 0-5336795), United States Army, for heroism in connection with military operations against an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Lieutenant Luscher distinguished himself while serving as a Platoon Leader with Company C, 2d Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. On 6 February 1968, Lieutenant Luscher’s platoon came under intense enemy rocket and machine gun fire. He then moved from position to position advising, supervising and encouraging his platoon members. When informed that two seriously wounded men were separated from the platoon by a heavy brush fire, Lieutenant Luscher attempted to penetrate the flames on foot. After receiving burns, he realized foot passage was impossible, mounted his armored personnel carrier and moved to the aid of the wounded men. The brave actions and outstanding leadership of Lieutenant Luscher were a source of inspiration and encouragement to his men and contributed immensely in defeating the hostile force. First Lieutenant Luscher’s personal bravery, professional skill and exemplary devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
