Major Bagnal distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as Troop Commander and Executive Officer of the 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), in action against the enemy in 1966 and 1967. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Major Bagnal, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
