Jerome O’Malley graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1953. He flew 116 combat missions in F-4D’s and RF-4Cs aircraft in the Vietnam War, earning two Distinguished Flying Crosses. From 1982 to 1983 he served as the 19th Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force. He and his wife, along with three crewmembers, were killed in an air crash at the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, airport on April 20, 1985 while he was serving as a U.S. Air Force 4-Star General.
