The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Lowell D. Davison, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with Company C, 5th Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, during ground combat operations in the Republic of Vietnam. Private First Class Davison distinguished himself in action on 12 January 1968 as a Rifleman when his Platoon was engaged in close combat with a large North Vietnamese force. Seeing that his Platoon was about to be overrun, Private First Class Davison moved from cover to find a withdrawal route and gave covering fire for his Platoon’s move to friendly lines. He then continued to delay the enemy and prevent their pursuit of his Platoon throughout the withdrawal. Private First Class Davison’s exceptional leadership, personal bravery and determined actions uphold the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 1st Cavalry Division and the United States Army.
