The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Michael Joseph Nardotti, Jr., United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. First Lieutenant Nardotti distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving with Troop B, 1st Squadron (Airmobile), 9th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), in action against the enemy on 6 December 1970, while serving as a Platoon Leader in the Republic of Vietnam. While leading his platoon to a contact area to reinforce a Ranger Team, his unit took heavy small arms fire from an enemy bunker complex. First Lieutenant Nardotti unhesitatingly led an assault on the position. Despite wounds received in the battle, First Lieutenant Nardotti remained with his men until the action broke; only then would he allow himself to be evacuated. First Lieutenant Nardotti’s gallant actions are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
