Major Lucas distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as G-3 (Operations Officer), XXIV Corps, Military Assistance Command, Vietnam, and as an Advisor to Army of the Republic of South Vietnam troops, in action against the enemy in 1971 and 1972. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Major Lucas, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
