Darden Looper was one of nine airmen (2 Navy and 7 Army Air Force) who was being held as a Prisoner of War at Hiroshima. He was killed as a result of the first atomic bomb drop on that city on August 6, 1945.

    Second Lieutenant (Air Corps) Darden W. Looper (ASN: 0-2067143), United States Army Air Forces, was captured by the Japanese after his aircraft was shot down in July 1945, and was held as a Prisoner of War until his death in captivity on or about 6 August 1945.
