The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Sergeant George D. Long, United States Army, for heroism above and beyond the call of duty on 2 April 2014. Sergeant Long’s heroic action while clearly distinguishing himself in his performance during the fatal incident on Fort Hood, Texas. Staff Sergeant Long’s heroic action is in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflects distinct credit upon himself, the 490th Movement Control Battalion, the 4th Sustainment Brigade, the 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) and the United States Army.
