The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to First Sergeant Lawrence Scott Riddle (ASN: 2661994), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company I, 131st Infantry Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Bois-de-Chaume, France, 11 October 1918. Sergeant Riddle, with four other soldiers, flanked an enemy machine-gun position, killed three of the crew, and captured one, together with the guns. He was subsequently killed while leading a small group of men in an attack on an enemy machine-gun nest.
