The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Warrant Officer (W-1) Robert Lee Storey (ASN: W-3161466), United States Army, for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by on 21 November 1968. Warrant Officer Storey distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as the pilot of an unarmed helicopter on a reconnaissance mission over suspected enemy held territory. Because a personnel detection device was being utilized on his ship, Warrant Officer Storey was forced to make numerous low level passes over the area, thus becoming a prime target for the enemy fire. Having successfully evaded the ever increasing enemy fire during the performance of his daring passes, the personnel detection device picked up yet another place of enemy concentration. As he descended upon the newly discovered hostile location, Warrant Officer Storey’s ship came under devastating enemy fire, causing it to crash to the jungle below. Through the sacrifices of Warrant Officer Story, numerous enemy soldiers were killed and several weapons captured. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
