The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Robin R. Titus (ASN: RA-11758353), United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy. Private First Class Titus distinguished himself by exceptional heroism on 25 June 1968, while serving with Company B (Medical), 173d Support Battalion (Airborne), 173d Airborne Brigade (Separate). During a crash of an Air Force C-123 aircraft at Landing Zone ENGLISH, Republic of South Vietnam, Private Titus, although repeatedly exposed to fire and possible explosion from leaking fuel, fearlessly continued the evacuation of casualties from the wreckage and provided them with rapid emergency treatment. With complete disregard for his safety, Private Titus moved back into the burning wreckage time after time until all casualties were saved. As a result of his actions, the casualties received only moderate injuries. Private Titus’ heroic actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
