The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Warrant Officer (W-1) Michael A. Holt, United States Army, for gallantry in action in connection with military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force while serving with the 191st Aviation Company (Assault Helicopter), 1st Aviation Brigade, in the Republic of Vietnam on 6 March 1969. Warrant Officer Holt distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as an aircraft commander and light fire team leader performing aerial reconnaissance. Spotting an approximate company-sized enemy element, his aircraft took five rounds. Through repeated low level strikes his fire team aircraft accomplished 41 enemy killed and destroyed 4 enemy occupied structures and sampans. Warrant Officer Holt was given the responsibility of directing the movement of the infantry elements on the ground. He made numerous descents into the hostile area to insert infantrymen. Though his ammunition was exhausted, he continued his insertions in the precarious area. During one insertion an enemy company commander was captured. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
