The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Staff Sergeant Kurt B. Michaelsen, United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy on 11 October 1972. By his courageous action, humanitarian regard for his fellow man, and dedication of service to his country, Staff Sergeant Michaelsen has reflected great credit on himself and the United States Army. [This award supersedes award of the Army Commendation Medal (First Oak Leaf Cluster) awarded to Staff Sergeant Michaelsen for meritorious achievement on 15 November 1972, as announced in General Orders Number 4, Headquarters, United States Army Training Center, Fort Ord, California, dated 15 January 1973.]
