The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Specialist Fourth Class Darrell A. Landry, United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy at Panama City, Florida, on 12 July 1971. On that date Specialist Landry immediately responded to a call for help from individuals caught in an ocean undertow and risked his life several times in succession to save the lives of a fellow soldier and four other individuals. Specialist Landry distinguished himself by his great strength and swimming ability after analyzing an emergency situation and then taking immediate action. By his courageous action, humanitarian regard for his fellow man, and dedication of service to his country, Specialist Fourth Class Landry has reflected great credit on himself and the United States Army.
