The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Specialist Fifth Class [then Specialist Fourth Class] Edward A. Moravick, United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy at Fort Tilden, New York on 20 June 1969. On that date, Specialist Moravick noticed a small craft capsized about 100 yards from the Nike Radars he has been pulling daily checks and adjustments on. Instantly Specialist Moravick undressed and dashed into the ocean attempting to reach the drowning man. Several times it appeared that the crashing waves were forcing Specialist Moravick to shore but he continued his efforts with undaunted determination. Seeing a Coast Guard helicopter closing in towards the boat Specialist Moravick waited until the rescue was made before he returned to shore. By his courageous action and humanitarian regard for his fellow man, in the dedication of his service to his country, Specialist Moravick is reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
