The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Captain (Medical Service Corps) Gerard J. Lehoux, United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy on 11 August 1968 as he voluntarily risked his life in order to save the lives of two human beings. While fishing after duty hours at Lake Ontario, New York, Captain Lehoux rescued two male civilians who were drowning. This act was performed voluntarily and at the risk of his own life due to the rough, rock filled waters through which he navigated in order to perform rescue. Captain Lehoux’s act of valor bears single credit upon him, United States Army, and military establishment.
