The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Jacob T. Tackett (ASN: US-544394486), United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy in voluntarily risking his own life in an attempt to save the lives of others on 11 April 1967 at Pelham Range, Fort McClellan, Alabama. Private Tackett, upon discovering that a helicopter had crashed during a training exercise, entered the craft and determined that condition of the personnel aboard. Assisted by three others, he helped remove the bodies from the burning aircraft and rendered emergency first aid to the pilot. Private Tackett reflected great credit upon himself, the 69th Chemical company ( Smoke Generator), and the United States Army.
