The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Specialist Fifth Class Frank E. Tenter, Jr. (ASN: RA-19800463), United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy as a member of Headquarters Company, United States Army Training Center, United States Army Garrison, Fort Ord, California at Marina Beach, Marina, California on 9 April 1967. Specialist Tenter observed a young boy being carried out to sea by a strong undertow. Without regard for his own safety, and at great risk to his own life, Specialist Tenter braved the chilling and turbulent waters to swim to the aid of the boy. Although forced to fight the strong undertow and a rough surf, Specialist Tenter brought the boy safely to shore, thereby saving his life. Specialist Tenter’s courageous act is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, and the United States Army.
