The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Specialist Ronnie J. Addington, United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy as a member of Company B, 2d Battalion 37th Armor, on 28 February 1966, near Burgarrnback, Germany. Specialist Addington was operating a one-quarter ton truck en route to his home kaserne when he came upon the scene of a traffic accident. A vehicle owned by a German National had left the road, overturned and burst into flames. The panic stricken driver could not free himself from the blazing wreckage. Specialist Addington halted his vehicle and rushed to aid the helpless driver. With complete disregard for his safety and ignoring the imminent danger of a gasoline explosion, he was successful in freeing the frightened, injured driver and removing him to a safe distance. Specialist Addington’s quick action in the face of grave danger and his deep concern for his fellow man are in the highest traditions of the United States Army and reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
