The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Corporal Wilbert L. Reynolds (ASN: RA-18558340), United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy Corporal Reynolds selfless devotion to duty and courageous actions prevented the robbery of over $5,000 from the Fort Leavenworth, Commissary on 7 January 1967. Though struck twice upon the head and dazed, Corporal Reynolds again seized an opportunity to confront his assailant. Corporal Reynolds acted promptly without regard for his personal safety, and in so doing was struck with a .32 Caliber projectile which ricocheted off a brass eyelet on his Military Police Belt. Undaunted, Corporal Reynolds returned the fire forcing the unnerved thief to disrupt his carefully laid scheme and providing time for fellow Military Policemen to take him into custody. Corporal Reynolds’ mature judgment and courage reflects the utmost credit upon himself and his unit, and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the Military Police Corps and the United States Army. [This award supersedes award of the Army Commendation Medal awarded to Corporal Reynolds by Headquarters Fifth United States Army.]
