The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Staff Sergeant Robert Andrews (ASN: RA-15597699), United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy on 18 May 1966 while acting as a safety Non-Commissioned Officer on a flame thrower range. Sergeant Andrews voluntarily risk death or serious injury to save the life of the novice firer. Sergeant Andrews’ action also prevented injuries to at least ten other men who were awaiting their turn to fire. Because of his actions, Sergeant Andrews himself was seriously burned on the face and hands. Sergeant Andrews’ actions were in the highest tradition of service and reflect great credit on himself and his unit.
