Department of the Army, General Orders No. 45 (December 1, 1966)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross (Army Award) to Captain Roger G. McKee (AFSN: FV-3025527), United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight from July 1965 to November 1965 in the Republic of Vietnam. Captain McKee demonstrated unique flying ability and indomitable courage while participating in a hazardous flying operation. His determination and professional skill ensured the success of a mission in which a helicopter, equipped with special electronic equipment was required to maintain a tight orbit position at an altitude of less than five hundred feet in the close proximity of hostile troop concentrations. Although the aircraft was required to orbit for one hour and often exposed to hostile gunfire and adverse weather, he repeatedly volunteered for these perilous missions. Captain McKee’s heroic actions, perseverance, and flying experience contributed to the success of the dangerous aerial missions and reflect great credit upon himself, the United States Air Force, and the military service.
