Colonel Vinson distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as Commanding Officer, 19th Artillery Regiment, and Deputy Commanding Officer, Division Artillery, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), in action against the enemy in 1966 and 1967. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Colonel Vinson, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
