The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Lorenza Eady (ASN: RA-53392348), United States Army, for gallantry in action in connection with military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force while serving with the 1st Aviation Brigade in the Republic of Vietnam on 4 May 1968. Sergeant Eady distinguished himself by valorous action while serving as a fire team leader on a combat operation in the Republic of Vietnam. During the late afternoon hours, Sergeant Eady’s unit was airlifted into an area of intense fire as a reaction force. Shortly after landing, the unit was pinned down and surrounded in a rice paddy. Sergeant Eady, seeing several of his comrades fall wounded, rushed through intense enemy fire to carry them to safety. After administering first aid to the wounded, Sergeant Eady returned to his position, and was instrumental in preventing the enemy from overrunning the friendly elements. Sergeant Eady’s extraordinary heroism in close combat with a numerically superior enemy force were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
