Headquarters, 1st Aviation Brigade, General Orders No. 8094 (December 9, 1968)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Warrant Officer (W-1) Jimmie H. Hinson (ASN: W-3157092), United States Army, for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty. Warrant Officer Henson distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as aircraft commander on a troop carrying helicopter that was called to assist a friendly ground unit in heavy contact with an enemy force west of Kontum. As Warrant Officer Henson began his approach to the landing zone with reinforcements on board, he began receiving enemy small arms fire. Breaking off short, he let the gunships suppress the fire. He then made three sorties under intense mortar and small arms fire, inserting reinforcements and picking up wounded. Due largely to Warrant Officer Henson’s courage and flying skill, the ground unit was not overrun by the enemy; they were now in a much stronger posit ion to defend themselves. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
