The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Peter P. Foulkrod (ASN: 33355422), United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy while serving with the 90th Infantry Division in northern France. On 9 August 1944 in ***, France, a comrade of Private First Class Foulkrod accidentally spilled a quantity of gasoline on his clothes. The gasoline ignited and the soldier became panic stricken and started to run. Private First Class Foulkrod and a companion tackled him in spite of his burning clothes, threw him to the ground and smothered out the flames with a shelter-half and towel, thereby saving the soldier’s life.
